The Calva Sekanjabin

A few weeks ago we participated in a contest held by the blog “Mamie Boude” for the creation of a cocktail with Calvados, the world famous apple brandy that comes from a french region with the same name. This was not the first time we tried to create a drink but we must say we are not experts in mixology;)
After researches and test sessions with our colleagues, we settled on a cocktail with Persian influences. We mixed the Calvados with Sekanjabin!

Sekanjabin is a very old Iranian syrup designed for the heat wave, and therefore very, very refreshing. In addition it perfectly blends with Calvados. Sekanjabin and the resulting drink, Sherbet-e-Sekanjabin, are usually served during the summer with grated cucumber or lettuce leaves.

Si we twisted the drink by adding a little calvados, sparkling water and cucumber.

Ingredients : (for every drink)
  • 2cl Honey
  • 10 Leaves of mint
  • 1,5cl Cider vinegar
  • 4cl Calvados
  • 4,5cl Sparkling water
  • 30g Cucumber


Put the mint leaves and honey in the bottom of a shaker, then crush with a pestle.


Add the cider vinegar and the calvados.


Shake until the honey is thoroughly diluted.


Pour into a glass by filtering with a colander.


Add the sparkling water.


Mix the cucumber to obtain a smooth purée (if the cucumber is not very juicy, you may need to add some water).


Very gently, pour the cucumber puree over the cocktail.


You can add on top, mint leaves or cucumber slices.


Unfortunately we did not win the Calvados cocktail contest, but we are still happy to have created this drink and to have discovered many other cocktails from other competitors 🙂
